With the amount of enthusiasm we've got for doing a yank based battle, I personally don't think postponing would be a good idea. We have a fair bit of time to find an alternative site and then use CA in the future for another one, when the campsite is available. We could still do a yank based one at Nesscliffe as well, if we got the site. I'm just throwing Redditch into the mix because of the good relationship I have with the owners (with the added bonus that it's one in the eye for that prick manning!).

Well, exactly - no reason why Nessclife can't be Yank-based on Oct 3, do Devils Hill in 2011.

Yep. We could do a Normandy period battle, or early days of Market Garden at Nesscliffe . The ground is ideal for a post bocage scenario, like the outslirts of St.Lo, or the approaches to Nijmegen. If we get Nesscliffe though, it will have to be a weekender. A day event just will not do the area justice.

Approaches to Nijmagen sounds good - we can link the two events conceptually.

OK, first things first. I'll get back to Ops Tac and see:
a) ball park on how much it will cost
b) if 3rd Oct would be available
c) if a weekender is OK
d) when they are available for a site visit/meeting

Yes, it would be nice to link the events. Although, I was hoping to shoehorn Salerno (oil drum drop) in next year as well! At least noone could bitch that we don't cater for the yanks  .

I am 110% up for site recces and planning for Nesscliffe. It's a fantastic area. If we could put on a good event there and forge a good rapport with op-tactical, then we can go for my ultimate site for another event - Swynnerton!

Heh, on one of the site visits at F&O Bolton Jamie collared Guy and me and was spouting on about a great game he had lined up at Swynnerton. He wanted to do a WW2 event but wanted advice on a scenario. Like we could come up with a scenario on the spot for him! Luckily he soon wandered off babbling to himself - that chap is impossible to talk to!

Anyhoo, I'll have speaks with Op Tac...

I have many happy memories of Swynnerton (I spent my 21st birthday there, manning a company radio net!). For a start, it's completely flat! Distant Thunder 2005 there was the best "big" game I've ever been to as well. Loads of potential there for the "mother of all WW2 events". A revisit to Arnhem would be perfect. There's a couple of bridges there, even (though not massive).

I just spoke the site owners re: Redditch. I called them to talk about the training day but mentioned we may need a site in October.

They told me that they have no idea if they'll have any bookings for paintballers for that date and, to have exclusive use of the site would cost £1000+ if they had to turn paintballers away, or just "normal" airsoft green fees if they had no bookings (about £20 a head), as 40+ paintballers can easily net them £2000 or more.

No good to us at all, as we need to know far in advance of what the owners can tell us. So, looks like Redditch is a no go for this event.

Flippin heck - I can see why paintball sites are always well presented and have good facilities that are rare at airsoft sites!

No, he hasn't been on the forum since my last email was sent and I've checked all the other forums they use and the same situation. Perhaps he is away for a few days. I'll give it until this weekend and I'll start pestering by phone!
